Let me just preface my answer with a quick anecdote. Recently I met my best friends new boyfriend. She was telling me all about him. And then she started her sentence with "there is one thing about him that I know you won't like." (Or something along those lines.) and my first thought was uh oh! So what does she tell me? She informs me that her boyfriend does not like music. Let me clarify. THE MAN DOES. NOT. LIKE. MUSIC. When I finally met this guy, I had to ask why. And according to him, "it just goes in one ear and out the other." Now if you ask me, this guy is either extremely empty inside and hasn't yet admitted it. Or he is unnaturally happy and fulfilled in his life.
So, let's return to the regularly scheduled programming: why do I listen to music? Music to me is everything. Music fills the void. Every void can be filled by music. When there is an unnecessary silence, music fills that.
But most of all, music fills the void inside of me. In my opinion, every person is missing something. No one has the perfect life. And I'm not really sure what I'm missing, but music fills the space left by what is missing. Very few things in this world are perfect, music is one of the few things that is. If you ask me, music is a band-aid. (BAND-aid, tehe) It puts a temporary fix on the things that are wrong. The things that can't be fixed by a simple apology. The things that can't be fixed with a simple action. The things that can't be fixed with a pint of ice cream. Music makes you forget.
In my opinion, people who say they don't like music just haven't heard the right kind of music. The right kind of music will make you feel everything you want to. If it's the right kind of music, you'll be standing at the concert, and feel complete. Because even though you are standing in a crowd of hundreds or thousands of strangers, you all have something in common. And for just a little while, you're all family.
That why I listen to music.
For bits and pieces of some of my favorite music and some songs I just think are good, check out my playlists. All My Favorite Things. My Own Little World. A Little Bit of Sunshine. Music For A Rainy Day.
Until next time, my lovelies...
